Privately owned, The Old Cartshed @ Westfield Seahouses was built by owners Neil and Jackie specifically to provide 5 star, holiday accommodation for up to four people coming together to enjoy and explore Northumberland.
When we came to live at Westfield Farmhouse in late 2001, the old open sided barn had more cobwebs than you could shake a stick at, a redundant old red car lay gathering rust, and numerous drain pipes, bits and pieces with a passing resemblence to agricultural brica brac were gathering dust big time. It remained in the same condition for the next 10 years or so, while we concentrated on renovating the house to a B&B and building our other tourism business interests in the locality.
Then in 2010 with a lull in our development schedule, we started to give full consideration to the potential of the Old Cartshed, with plans passed, and a real thirst to turn this wreck into something special, a 7 month build programme saw the final result ready for its first guest in June 2011.
We have always felt that the Old Cartshed is our best project todate, and our guests seem to think the same, with many returning year on year, and a few visiting more than once a year for another shot in the arm of Northumberland hospitality at its best.

A kitchen for professionals and family cooks alike. We’re equipped for a cosy Chrismas banquet, or a picnic lunch for 2 and all points inbetween.
Beautiful cabinetry and granite work tops, The range style cooker has a four ring ceramic hob on a double electric oven, the dishwashers, large half ’n half fridge freezer, microwave, toaster, Nespresso coffee machine, the list goes on.
Once you book if you’d like a full kitchen inventory, we can organise that - just incase you want to bring your granny’s favourite pie dish, but we think all you’ll need to bring is your “pinny”.
The solid pine table comfortably seats four. You can even watch the TV whilst you dine if you wish.
We supply pristine Spode quality crockery and shiny stainless steel cutlery, with ample serving dishes, glasses for every occasion - yes including those for champagne celebrations. The room is cosy and warm in winter with underfloor heating, and a log burner if you need it.
You can throw open the wide door to the courtyard area in summer for dining alfresco too.
The comfortable lounge has underfloor heating under its flag stone floor, traditional leather sofas, coffee table, infont of the cosy log burner and wall mounted TV, which incidentally has a NOW TV package, Netflix and Amazon prime.
We provide a small library of books, maps, and selection of games plus a wealh of information about the area and things to do.
Good quality wi-fi is available throughout the cottage.
Our comfortable bedrooms offer the flexibility to choose a large super kng double bed in the ensuite main room, and the 2nd is a king with flexible beds….
The king has jack’n Jill access to the main bathroom, the bed can be made into small twins -2’6” on request ideal for kids.
Our beds are made with non-feather duvets and two pillows per person. Bath sheets and hand towel per person.
The house / jack n jill bathroom has a large bath with shower over, a wash hand basin and toilet.
The ensuite shower room has an 850mm shower enclosure, large wash hand basin and toilet.
Both have heated towel rails and underfloor heating
A supply of quality toiletries is also provided
We extend a hearty welcome to our K9 visitors, your four-legged friend will receive a personalised welcome pack comprising home backed biscuits, a chew and some poo bags, and one of our doggy towels to use during your stay, all beautifully presented in a personalised carrier bag
If you are struggling for space in the car - we hire dog crates, dog beds and duvets..
Off road parking for two cars (restricted head height - 2.26m) to the front of the property under a car port.
To the rear of the property is a pretty enclosed courtyard with large table and chairs for alfresco dining, a barbecue, log store, outside lights and water tap.
Pretty planting offers a haven for cottage garden insects and wildlife and a lovely floral aroma in the spring and summer.
Our housekeeping team use eco friendly cleaning products to clean The Old Cartshed.
We also leave you eco-friendly items for your welcome pack. Washing up Liquid, Multi-surface cleaner, dishwasher tablets, washing powder etc.
The hot water is supplied via solar panels on the roof.
There’s so much to see and easily doable from the cottage - whether its walking, visiting castles, chilling on the beach, visitng some of our great pubs and restaurants, and spending the day at some of our really interesting events.
So many of our guests return again and again as there’s just not time to see and do everything in just one visit.
Our availability calendar is live 24/7, 365 days a year, so if it is showing available here you are safe to book securely on line, although be assured we double check your booking before we take your deposit. Please note that your deposit is 30% of the accommodation price, plus any options and extras. At the time we take your balance payment we will also require you to lodge a card onto which the Good Housekeeping bond of £250 will be ringfenced at the time of your stay.
